Parish Magazines Archive

Click the drop down menu for the year you wish to view.  Please note that digital files are in a printing format, so the pages within them are out of order... The older ones are scanned so this doesn’t apply. These are PDF files so please allow for them to download.
Surviving   Parish   records   in   the   form   of   churchwarden's   and   overseers'   accounts   cover   a   good   deal   of   the   17th   and   18th   centuries,   but   there   is   a surprising   lack   of   such   documents   for   the   19th   century.   On   the   other   hand   the   19th   and   early   20th   centuries   are   well   covered   by   the   ten-yearly census   returns,   various   trade   directories,   tithe   and   Ordnance   maps   and   last   but   not   least   the   Parish   Magazine   which   made   its   first   appearance   in February 1887. We   have   digitised   every   single   available   Parish   Magazine   since   the   very   first   one   published   in   February   1887.   Look   at   the   table   below   before   you look in the Archive at the bottom of the page, as it will show you the magazines that are still missing. I would like to thank the following people for helping me create this Archive; Alison & Paul Bennett, John England, Lynn Fancy, Martin Lys, John Pitfield & the Dorset History Centre.

The Parish magazine was published just once between1926  and 1936 July 1986 is a faulty pdf document! The Parish Magazine was discontinued in 1936, due to mounting losses. The Magazine was restarted in 1947, having been discontinued during the War, due to paper shortages. Unfortunately all the magazines from 1947 are currently missing. The Magazine was suspended from January 1961 until June 1961, so we only have magazines from June onwards. Any month marked with an ‘X’ means it is missing.
