
It's
a misconception to think the countryside was more wooded in Victorian
times. We enjoy a greater level of woodland now than we ever did in
those days. And yet...doesn't it always seem that Victorian photographs
are positively bursting at the seams with woodland writ large? Anyhow,
that hedge in the distance looks familar now in 2003. Though there
would have been no chance of hitting the traffic with a deftly aimed
6 in 1908...
