Bere Regis Celebration of The Queens Diamond Jubilee 2012

Bere Regis Parish Council Working Group Newsletter 1 - November 2011

A working group representing many of the village organisations met at the end of October 2011 to start planning events to celebrate the Queen’s Diamond Jubilee next year.

The Parish Council is coordinating the activities and taking responsibility for risk assessments and public liability insurance which will only cover events known to and supervised by the Working Group. A means of notifying us about events and activities will be publicised in due course

The Parish Council will put up some seed corn money; however the Working Group wondered whether each of the various village organisations would consider holding a particular event between now and May next year to raise money towards the main events. The more that is raised, the more ambitious we can be in our celebrations.

Different groups of people and organisations will organise the various elements of the celebrations.

Outline Programme

  • Installation of the three new Purbeck stone “BERE REGIS” village signs, perhaps in May. These stones will carry an inscription saying

“To commemorate the Diamond Jubilee of Her Majesty the Queen in 2012"

  • Monday 14th May Jubilee Village Quiz 7.30pm
  • Saturday 26th May Rapport 7.30pm entry by ticket at £5 per person from Alison Bennett on 01929 472 023

(Profits from both events above go to the Village Jubilee Fund).

  • Sunday 3rd June Celebratory Jubilee Service in the Parish Church
  • Sunday 3rd June perhaps locally organised Street Parties in the afternoon
  • Monday 4th June Jubilee Pageant Parade through the village, followed by a Parish Picnic at the Sports Ground, with music and entertainment.
  • Monday 4th June lighting the Jubilee Beacon (possibly accompanied by fireworks, subject to consultation and funds)
  • Saturday 9th June Jubilee Concert by the Woodbury Hill Singers at the Drax Hall at 2.30pm

Help Needed

It would be great if various activities could be sponsored in whole or part. If anyone would like to discuss this, please speak to Ian Ventham on 01929 471480

If anyone would like to suggest additional activities or offer their help to make this a truly memorable occasion, please contact Arlene Duncanson on email here or on 472 141

Quarrying, inscribing and installing the three new village signs, which will be similar to the Shitterton sign, will cost about £2500. Early next year we will be offering everyone the opportunity to contribute towards the cost. Ever contributor will be recorded in a commemorative book that we hope to be able to keep in the Parish Church. Those who give more than £100 will have the opportunity to have their names inscribed on one of the new signs.
