Villagers & Sheep going to Woodbury Hill Fair in 1902

This photograph was taken by a guy called Hermann Lea who worked closely in conjunction with Thomas Hardy. He photographed many of the places that appeared in Hardy's books. For your interest, Bere Regis, or 'Kingsbere', occurred much in Hardy's 'Wessex'. A particularly good example is Tess of the D'Urbervilles which was based on the real life Turberville family of Bere Regis.
