to name but a few of its roles.
It is
available for hire for private parties or for regular meetings. Large
hall & small room are both available. The latter especially suitable
for children's parties. For details of hiring charges etc. Contact

As
Treasurer of the Village Hall it was a very great pleasure to open
an ordinary envelope to find a donation of £600! This does not
happen too often as you may guess. The Committee is so very grateful
to the Pop in for their generosity.
The
Hall Management Committee were thrilled to learn that our Chairman
Kath Jeeves had been selected as the "Purbeck Volunteer of the
Year". This reflects all of her work in helping others less fortunate
than herself. In our case she has led the Committee extremely well
and encouraged us to make vast improvements to the Hall that she loves.
We hope that our next steps will be to improving the heating and the
access to the upper hall. Kath is in the forefront and given time
we will succees. CM

It
was a great pleasure to see the Village Hall topped up with the Gardeners
produce and the Cooks' cakes together with the Artisits' items at
the Annual Show. From all reports it seemed to have been a success
so we hope that next year there will be another show.
We
have some exciting events coming along. On Saturday 3rd October we
have The Yetties. Tickets are £8.50 each which includes a supper,
available from Kath Jeeves or Alison Bennett. Then late in October
on Saturday 24th we have the Purbeck Film Festival showing of "Young
Victoria". Tickets at £4 are available from Kath Jeeves.
This
film is a story of the Queen Victoria that we do not know too much
about - not the greying old lady always dressed in black. We see a
youthful Queen passionately in love with her Prince.
For
the younger element on Wednesday 28th October at 10.30am we have a
performance by the Hand in Mouth Theatre Company. This is a puppet
performance of Goldilocks. See the posters for details. Tickets from
Chris Maunder on 471 342.
Looking
ahead to next year when we are planning to have another Step Back
in Time Exhibition, there will be a Planning Meeting on Friday 11th
September at 8pm in the Lower Room of the Drax Hall. CM

Meeting
The
Hall is hosting the Yetties - it will not be too late to obtain a
ticket if you have not already obtained one - either from Kath Jeeves
(471 175) or Alison Bennett (472 023). Together with the entertainment
there will be a Ploughman's Supper and of course the Raffle. This
is always a very happy evening so book the date Saturday 3rd October
at 7.30pm.
October
is always a busy month and this one is no exception. On Saturday 24th
at 7.30pm we have a film from the Purbeck Film Festival. The film
to be shown is "Young Victoria". Think of Queen Victoria
- are you imagining a greying old lady dressed in black? Well this
film gives her an image makeover as it takes us back to her turbulent
youth, from her ascent to the throne, to her passionate romance with
Prince Albert. The cast includes Emily Blunt and Rupert Friend in
the leading roles. Again tickets from Kath Jeeves on 471 175. Early
booking is advised.
At
half term we have the Hand to Mouth theatre presenting "Goldilocks"
on Wednesday 28th October at 10.30am. This is an original adaption
of the well loved tale. Martin Bridle & Sue Eaton - they have
been here before - have woven extra drama and humour into this Goldilocks
story, combining traditional glove puppetry and live music to create
a patchwork of delights. Please note that the Williams Trust have
given a sum of money to underwrite the local children's tickets. Thus
is is hoped that we will only charge £1 for a child as against
the £3 normally charged. Tickets from Chris Maunder on 471 342.
Looking
to November, we have a Tale Top Sale on Saturday 14th from 10am till
12pm. Sally Cheeseman is organising the tables so if you would like
to book one give her a call on 471 022.
On
the same day, but in the evening we have a monologue entertainment
with Tim Laycock. The show is entitled "Ha! Ha! Hardy" in
which he explores the humourous side of Thomas Hardy. Tim is accompanied
by Dorset Fiddler Colin Thompson. Tickets are £4 for adults,
obtainable from Chris Maunder on 471 342. CM

Meeting
The
performance by the Yetties last month was a great success. During
the evening a presentation was made to Kath Jeeves in recognition
of the tremendous work that she has put in over the years for the
Village Hall. Users of the hall will be pleased to see that we now
have a new heating system. No longer should there be ‘hot spots’
where you bake and adjacent cold spots where you freeze. Also the
new system heats the hall quickly. As I write these few words I have
just been made aware that the Autumn Leaves and Weight Watchers have
both enjoyed their respective meetings in warm surroundings. The system
will also cool the hall, in the event that this is necessary.
It
is anticipated that a stair lift will be installed by the time that
this report is published. When that is complete the Committee will
have responded to the major criticisms of the hall. All of this work
has been made possible by the receipt of a
grant from ‘Awards for All ‘ which is part of the National
Lottery.
We
have a Table Top Sale on Saturday 14th November from 10.00 until 12.00.
Lots of lovelies – especially cakes etc. If you would like a
table to sell your own bits and pieces then please see or telephone
Sally Cheeseman (471022).
On
that same evening we have Tim Laycock giving a performance under the
title of ‘Ha. Ha..Hardy’. This is a monologue in which
he explores the funny side of Thomas Hardy. He is accompanied by a
Dorset Fidler – Colin Thompson. Tickets for this event are £6.00
for Adults. I have already received orders for tickets for this popular
show from a number of people outside the Village.
Looking
further ahead to December there will be a Christmas Bingo evening
on Monday 7th December. ‘Eyes down’ at 7.30pm. Come and
try your luck at winning one (or some) of the splendid prizes that
are always offered. CM
