Probably the Oldest Photograph of Bere Regis; taken in 1863

Courtesy of John Pitfield

Although 140 years seperates these two photographs, the village still retains a similar shape to all that time ago. The Church still dominates as the village spreads northwards along the hill. The Eastern edge of the village has been mercifully retained, so that green fields frame the view as before. The real changes are to found to the West & South of the church which are out of sight. The somewhat surreal question is how green will this view be in 2143?
